Council Organisation to Invest in Social Housing
It's ridiculous that while MSD's Housing Register has registered around 100 people needing accommodation on its books, HNZ is only committing investment to build 13 new units! MSD's Register is supposed to inform HNZ's estimate on housing demand.
This lack of investment gets worse when you consider the hidden demand could be as high as 300.
"Council needs to have realistic partnerships with government agencies..”
"Earlier, in February this year I gave HNZ a bollocking for leaving two HNZ houses empty in the midst of a housing crisis.
A $700K house in Hihi Place in Waikanae had been left vacant for 20 months. The second a $380K house, within a 10-minute walk to Paraparumu College, was vacant for a year. Both were fixed and tenanted quickly after the media exposure," said Guru.
"Council needs to have realistic partnerships with government agencies if they want us to help increase our housing stock. I'm keen to explore the use of a council-linked organisation to invest in building social and affordable housing."
